Miqueliopuntia miquelii

Regular price

This handsome glochid-filled blue opuntoid is the only species in the genus Miqueliopuntia.  They grow in the northern deserts of Chile and are dispersed by fallen segments as well as through seed.

Plant Care

This plant grows best in a high-mineral mix and requires infrequent watering.
We grow these under 50% shade but they can be acclimated to full sun.
Overwatering can cause the plant to split or rot! These go dormant in the winter months.  You can water lightly once a month during the winter.

Pot Info

Notched Simple Pot
The lower half of the pot is perfectly brassy, while the upper half is coated in a muted matte glaze that subtly emphasizes the iron speckles from the clay body. The form is bisected by an indentation at the waistline that balances the irregular glazing and the raw lower half. This pairing is another favorite of ours.
