This funky lumpy egg grows in the dry tropical environment of north east Somalia.  As a member of the Milkweeed(asclepiadaceae) family, it produces flowers that attract flies-- that means these flowers STINK!

*It's been a while since we took the original photos. Please refer to the last two images for an updated look at the plant*

Care

Although similar to cacti, these love a fast draining mix that is higher in minerals.  However, they do enjoy more water than their convergently evolved brethren.
They will thrive under partial shade (our greenhouse has 50% shade).
Avoid freezes and water less often in the winter.

Pot Info

Footed Pot Belly Pot

If we decide to glaze a pot they are dipped upside down directly into a five gallon bucket full of goopy glaze. After the pot is turned right side up the glaze sometimes gathers and runs in unexpected ways. The small foot at the base of the pot provides a foundation for the playful exchange between white glaze and the raw clay.
