Ariocarpus cv. Maruibo Trifinger (Mituibo)

This fantastic hybrid is showing exemplary traits for Trifinger while keeping the rounded, short tubercles, and lateral areoles of Maruibo. The tubercles also have a remarkable texture and color.

The cultivar "trifinger" was bred to exaggerate the "three finger" look where each tubercle splits into three areoles and tubercles at the tip.  These traits have been noted in wild retusus populations but have been selectively bred by Japanese growers to extremes.

Ariocarpus are desert plants that grow mostly in Mexico.  These geophytes are commonly called “living rocks” due to their ability to mimic the surrounding geology and blend in.

What does "CV" mean?

It's short for cultivar. Cactus cultivars are specially bred varieties of cacti that are highly prized for their unique and often stunning characteristics. Unlike typical cacti found in nature, these cultivars have been selectively cultivated by enthusiasts and growers in Japan to enhance certain traits, such as unusual shapes, vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and distinctive textures.

Care

Like most xerophytes from Mexico, this cactus grows best in a high-mineral mix and requires infrequent watering. This plant thrives in light shade although it can be acclimated to full sun.
