This is a true stunner. Sown in 2016 and grown hard.

Echinocactus texensis, commonly known as the horse crippler cactus, is a distinctive and robust cactus native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. This low-growing cactus typically forms a flattened, dome-shaped body that can reach up to a foot in diameter. Its surface is covered with pronounced, sharp ribs that create a rugged and striking appearance.

The cactus boasts a grayish-green color and is adorned with clusters of thick, stout spines that range from reddish-brown to gray. These spines provide a formidable defense, giving the plant its common name due to the potential to harm livestock that might step on it.

One of the most appealing features of Echinocactus texensis is its stunning flowers. During the blooming season, it produces large, vibrant pink to magenta flowers with bright yellow centers, creating a beautiful contrast against its tough exterior. These flowers emerge from the top of the cactus and can add a spectacular splash of color to the landscape.
