Gymnocalycium mihanovichii cv variegata

This South American cactus is commonly known as the “Moon Cactus” and fully red/pink/yellow forms can be found grafted to hylocereus to be purchased in garden centers.  This particular plant is variegated but retains chlorophyl and can live on its own roots!

Care

This plant will do best in partial shade due to the variegation.  

Gymnocalycium will take a little more water than most other cacti but can go without little to no water during the winter.

Protect from freezes by covering or bringing inside.

Double Pyramid Pot

Mostly unglazed except for a thin strip of glossy white on the top and matte pink on the bottom. The pinpoint speckles in this high fire stoneware show beautifully. The speckles come from the pot being fired in a low-oxygen environment, a.k.a. reduction firing.
